WHO IS MEGAN?

Hello!

My name is Megan (she/her) and creating theatre is my passion.

As a child, creating and playing dress up were staples in my life – my dad even built me and my brothers a stage in our basement to formalize our "productions." I grew up with a mother who was a television commercial producer and a father who worked in finance and investing. Between the two of them, both sides of my brain were always being challenged, whether thinking about something analytically or brainstorming new and creative ideas.

Senior year of high school I directed my first show – a production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. My drama teachers challenged me and trusted me with this huge project to capstone my high school career and I am forever grateful for that. I went on to pursue my theatre career at Indiana University – a Big 10 school with a strong theatre program that also allowed me to receive my education license. At IU I was given the incredible opportunity to direct 7 musicals and stage manage 5 plays all within the walls of my own university. Working on these shows – whether full blown productions produced by the university or student-run workshops – I learned about the many facets of theatre administration, technical production, box office sales, theatre for young audiences, social media & marketing, stage management, and directing. After completing my student teaching at Bloomington High School North, I continued my education at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco as an Artistic Direction Apprentice for the 2016-2017 season. Under the Artistic Direction of Loretta Greco, I was given countless opportunities to learn about the inner-workings of a professional theatre company that focused on new works, including ASMing a legacy revival of Paula Vogel's The Baltimore Waltz and assistant directing the World Premiere of Han Ong's Grandeur.

Currently I live in Chicago and love it – it is incredible to me how much theatre there is in this city and how it is sustained & supported by the community. Since moving, my focus has geared more towards stage management, however directing is still where my passions live, specifically when it comes to producing new works. Watching someone's words come to life for the first time is one of the most exciting experiences and being a part of the process that hones that story is so rewarding. But whether it’s a new work, TYA, immersive, musical, comedy, or drama – I have learned invaluable lessons from each project I have worked on and I look forward to learning more each day.

"I think plays make me glow."
- My mom, written in her diary at age 14
